New Textiles work

I really want to develop some large scale work involving textiles. After teaching the subject for many years I love fabrics and colour. But I have always struggled with the neatness and formality of some of the traditional techniques. I have become less patient and as everyone knows I am messy. So the textiles I produce is always a bit messy and unfinished. Any way, I have taught the techniques of Mola work or reverse appliqué for a long time. I love the element of surprise, you never know what you are going to get. So I am developing the technique to create some Cloth Ears artwork.  This  piece was created using some scrap materials and a sewing machine set to free machining so you can basically draw.   Not sure what cloth ears thinks !!!!!IMG_4187.JPG

Holiday sketches

While chilling out in Malaga I got  the chance to work on a few Cloth Ears ideas.  Just using pencil crayon and a trusted black pen, I didn’t take a sketchbook,  just a few loose sheets…..

Introducing a new character…. Hammy the Mining Mole.  Not sure where he’s going but hares are not like rabbits they don’t go underground.

Working on a few Christmas card designs….. watch out for developments

Book Launch

After such a busy couple of weeks in my day job, it was time for my book launch.  I

had invited as many friends and family as I could,  I needed their support. I organinsed some marketing materials and painted a large cardboard cutout of cloth ears….. which was really fun to do.  A week prior I had a bit of a paranoia panic….. no-one was going to come…. the book is rubbish… I am a fraud…. that sort of thing.

I booked to have the Launch at the most convenient place possible, the wonderful Tudor building literately next to my house. Tickhill Parish rooms.  It was a ‘cool”,  so I thought, small building, perfect if no one turned up.

Well they did turn up!!! in droves and it was so hot and people queued for ages to get a book signed.  It was amazing

One lovely lady just turned up to buy a book for her little son…. she couldn’t stay she had seen the posts on face book and just popped in to  purchase one. This made my night.  She sent me a image of him redding the book, he loved it!!  magic!

Thanks to everyone who came x

I had an idea about 5 years ago. I jotted it down in a tiny note book and put it away.   Teaching was my priority and my family, I would save that idea for later……

I left a job in teaching a good few years ago with a thought that I would like to be an illustrator. It never happened …. busy raising two children and working  in various educational settings, loving it.

One day I opened the  note sbook and started to develop the story and art work. I didn’t think it would develop into an illustrated picture book ……but here we are.
